@jon-nyc I know exactly what you mean. At least the PMs are chosen by those who have already been elected and empowered to make decisions rather than "Oh, he has such nice hair". I feel similarly about our senators who used to be chosen by state legislatures. The advent of (anti)social media only reinforces my feeling of the inmates running the asylum.

@Mik said in The impact of AI on jobs: It doesn’t mean higher education is obsolete. It just means one should have a practical focus to their chosen course of study. What Mik said. Luke picked anesthesia because there’s still going to need to be a hands on element to it, even if it’s just monitoring the tech, and being the human comgorting figure for the patient..:

@Horace said in Subsidizing Homeborrowership: It's easy to understand where the economic populism of the young generation is coming from. And it's not stupid, not at all. Individual policies might be, but not the perspective on unfairness and hopelessness. Just wait till the AI layoffs hit. While I’m an optimist and think there will be potential massive economic opportunities, that will be after quite a bit of economic pain for many people….

@jon-nyc said in Shutdown Length: Isn’t that always the case though? Quite literally all of the shutdown battles have been won by the side seeking the clean CR. Until this year that was always the Dems. This year it was the GOP. Maybe they’ll internalize it now. (Snort)

This reminds me of when our last decrepit president would talk confidently about how he was leading in all the polls when literally everyone else knew better. [image: 1762805639946-img_8691.jpeg]

@Mik said in The end is nigh: Trump? Islam? Geez, again there is plenty of to legitimately criticize, but killing the almanac? It couldn’t be that that type of information is at everyone’s fingertips, it had to be a conspiracy. Killing the almanac is just the start. Soon all farmers will be required to pay tariffs or observe Sharia Law, one of the two at least. Also, those crop circles. What about them? I foresee unforeseen things occurring on a regular basis or maybe even more so! You heard it here first.

Kind of makes sense, is this related to the boomer inheritance trickle down wealth we'll likely see more and more of over the next decade or two?

This reminds me a bit of when there is a school shooting. Yes, obviously, it's a tragedy and not sure how anyone could deal with it. But when my friends bring it up, I'm like... kids are 10,000% more likely to die while commuting to school, than at school. Yes I said 10,000% instead of 100x, but same-same. Where your seatbelt.

@blondie said in I'm too nice, my wife is not: @89th .. Your updated kitchen is modern, yet your choices will endure through what’s trending now for a long time. Good design decisions. Thanks - our house has maple or medium cherry (?) brown wood trim along the baseboard, the doors, the windows, the cabinets, and nice millwork around the fireplace and stairs. Lots of neighbors have converted/painted it to a mostly white trim everywhere and white kitchen. It certainly looks nice, but I like the slightly darker wood throughout the house, feels warm to me and I'd imagine it's a design that'll come back into trend one day too, not that I give 2 sh!ts about trends. @Mik yeah in our old virginia condo we had a big single sink where we'd give the baby a bath. Very easy.
